The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
If you are homesick of India, this movie is a must!
For a desparate group of English pensioners (Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie and Ronald Pickup), retirement takes an unconventional turn when they abandon their homeland, enticed by advertisements for ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’, a seemingly luxurious sanctuary for “the elderly and beautiful” in Jaipur, India. On arrival, they discover that the hotel falls somewhat short of the romantic idyll promised in the brochure, but they are gradually won over by the ever-optimistic young manager Sonny (Dev Patel), and tentatively embark on a new adventure, finding that life can begin again when you let go of the past.
Review
I went yesterday afternoon to see a great movie that reminded me so much of the time I had spent living in India. I could hear again its sounds, its incredible light in the morning or at sunset and even at one point in the film I could also smell it. Highly recommended for those friends who have spent part of their life in that country.
“Everything will be alright in the end, so if it’s not alright it’s not the end,” is a quote from the movie.
