A Spiritual Rebel’s Manifesto
Merely a few weeks after releasing his 44th book, Arjuna (John Hogue) has published the 45th about humanity’s future outlook and Osho’s vision. For the first time in all his published books, he also speaks about himself and his inner journey, writes Bhagawati.
It begins with a bleak future set out by Osho back in 1983, full of strive, famines and wars, as well as natural disasters, disease and nuclear incidents. In a nutshell, an apocalypse. At first one is tempted to think, ‘is this it?’
Not so.
Arjuna shows Osho as the most significant messenger about the world’s brighter future who has foreseen the coming of “Homo Novus” (the New Man). Arjuna’s autobiographical experiences will encourage the reader to enter Osho’s “Buddhafield” experiment, set to awaken human consciousness. It is an account of spiritual rebellion and personal revelations about his life as a sannyasin for 37 years in which Arjuna introduces Osho in a new light.
Arjuna says, “This collective awakening is never more needed than now. Human civilization seems poised on the brink of a great unraveling – an era of auto-suicidal acts that potentially threatens even nuclear war, the suppression of democracy, and global climate change catastrophes.”
Arjuna said, “You’ll read Osho’s prophecy recorded in 1983 that is exactly describing our darkening times today. Such times require a new Noah’s Ark to save humanity. An Ark that is invisible, a ‘Ship’ of the ‘Witnessing Soul’. You find a blissful birth upon this ‘vessel’ by tuning inward. Boarding this Ark requires a complete relaxation into let go and let ‘Being’.
‘Isness’ is Osho’s ticket to climb aboard the Noah’s Ark of Consciousness and the only safe haven is right inside the inner eye of the storm; safe is the center of the purifying cyclone fast approaching the human race.”
And quoting Osho: “Just as death faces an individual, similarly death shows its dark face before the collective consciousness of an entire civilization. And that civilization’s collective mind becomes ready to go deep into the realms of religion and the unknown… This can repeat itself again; there is a complete possibility for it.”¹
In this book, Arjuna shows that even the darkest times can bring positive, world-changing responses. Perhaps the light that we have always eternally been is best remembered only when the Misery Field of human suffering and fear is approaching its darkest climax.
In conclusion, Arjuna states that it is foretold that traditional solutions will be discarded in the twenty-first century. The humanity of the future will celebrate innovation and find the courage to embrace the unknown. Armed with this new understanding forged in crisis, they will find their way out of the apocalypse of ecological disasters, fire, and war in the 2020s. They will awaken from the messianic pathology imposed upon them by a past-oriented society that could exist only by exploiting people’s limitations, superstitions, and fears. The coming stresses are predicted to destroy such a society. Humanity will therefore face the death of its past so that it can have a future…. At the dawn of the twenty-second century, humanity comes of age – the Golden Age.
It is an significant and captivating book that acutely shows Osho’s far-reaching vision for the transformation of also humanity’s future generations. At the same time, we read about an individual inner journey along the work of the Master. Furthermore, Arjuna lines out the importance of the buddhafield that is emphasized by Osho again and again. In a discourse Osho gave in Lonavala on 23 December 1967, this vision is already addressed by him saying that he feels the ‘work’ could become an enormous banyan tree and that thousands of people could find shade under this tree. He also speaks about the necessity to spread the message via a “gathering of friends” where the value and dignity of each and every individual is preserved.
