Excerpt from: From Medication to Meditation, Chapter 1
"Western medical science has viewed man as a separate unit – apart from nature. That is one of the biggest faults that has been committed. Man is part of nature; his health is nothing but being at ease with nature.
Western medicine takes a mechanical view of man, so wherever mechanics can be successful, it is successful. But man is not a machine; man is an organic unity, and man needs not only the treatment of the part that is sick. The sick part is only a symptom that the whole organism is going through difficulties. The sick part is only showing it because it is the weakest." Osho
"These brilliant insights will benefit all those who yearn for experiential knowledge of the field of Pure Potentiality inherent in every human being. This book belongs on every shelf of every library and in the home of all those who seek knowledge of the higher self."
Dr. Deepak Chopra,
Author of Ageless Body, Timeless Mind
Transforming "Dis-ease" into "Well-Being

Rebel Publications:
If you look around at the offerings in the newsstands, kiosks and bookshops, or visit any of the major Internet portals, you can see that ‘Health’ and health-related issues are a very high priority in almost every culture in the world.
The Western cultures especially seem almost obsessed with health and the costs of healthcare are soaring to unimaginable numbers around the world. It looks like everybody is looking for recipes, pills, quick fixes and solutions to isolated health problems and issues.
In recent years we have also seen a strong movement toward alternative medicine. Many new healing methods have been developed and even more have been adopted from centuries-old Eastern and native traditions that were long spurned by the Western scientific medical establishment. The quantity of information about alternative approaches to healing is by now so vast that it is very difficult to sort through and actually make effective use of these methods; and it is also clear that a fair amount of fraud and quackery has infiltrated this area.
Osho has spoken in thousands of his discourses on health as a more whole approach to understanding the Body/Mind/Spirit complex. His depth of insight into what makes a healthy and whole human being plus the many meditation methods he has developed are a vital part of his overall vision and proposal to humanity.
Although he never gave a series of talks specifically about health issues, he did request that a book be compiled from his discourses focusing on health. He also gave the title for the book, From Medication to Meditation, and it was subsequently compiled under the supervision of his personal physician.
First published in English in 1995 by C. W. Daniel, From Medication to Meditation is now available in many languages around the world. The book has become an international Osho bestseller in many countries it is in its fourth or fifth edition, and the interest in Osho’s vision of a real understanding of health is growing.
In the book, Osho addresses the underlying issue: the way we are today, our conditioning from childhood onwards, makes it inevitable that our inner dis-ease is responsible for the estimated seventy percent (70%) of medical problems that are psychologically based, Osho emphasizes that the treatment required is to deal with this underlying disharmony through meditation, not by merely treating the symptoms with medication.
What’s lacking more than anything else in modern medicine is a philosophy of healing and that’s exactly what Osho offers in this book, and more uncompromisingly than anyone. Unlike most alternative healing books, Osho is not wedded to a particular system. Rather, he helps us to understand how to become more aware of the body/mind connection, how to get in tune with our own energies, and begin to live in a way that promotes greater health and well-being from the inside out.
The book can be of incredible help not only to individual readers but to therapists and people involved in all kind of healing professions.
Modern medicine, even after centuries, has still no real concept of prevention; though it is talked about a lot, and mostly mixed up with early diagnosis of various full-blown diseases.
In the foreword, which is a talk by Osho given to the Medical Association in India, he paints his vision of a healthier and more whole future when he says:
"every hospital will have a department of meditation. It should happen. Then we will be able to treat man as a whole. The body will be taken care of by the doctors, the mind by the psychologists, and the soul by meditation.
"The day the hospitals accept man as a whole, as a totality, and then treat him as such, will be a day of rejoicing for mankind. I request you to think in that direction so that this day will come soon."

A reader review from amazon.com:
The title, From Medication to Meditation, exactly pinpoints the current movement towards combining the Western science of the outer - conventional medical science - with the Eastern science of the inner - meditation.

Rather than the usual "turf battles" that plague this field, here we have a truly rounded view which supports the intelligent use of the most appropriate modality for every situation.
It includes fascinating insights into the current emergence of new diseases, including AIDS, the limitations of Western psychology and therapy in general; and chapters on euthanasia, living and dying, the mind as a disease-creating mechanism, over-eating, pain, massage, the role of the healer...in fact every topical health issue is covered.
And how to be healthy. As a physician, I can only say that if everybody read and understand this book, the cost of sickness to us all, in dollars and pain, would be dramatically reduced.
